المصدر الرسمي: The Democrats: Transportation (PDF)Transportation and infrastructure
Investing in public transportation that lets people get out of traffic.
- •The way to deal with traffic jams is to give people a good alternative to the private car.
- •To that end, we will increase investment and restore the preference for public transportation in allocating development budgets.
- •We will build a public-transportation system that can be relied on: more frequent, faster and better coordinated, within cities and between them.
- •Increasing bus frequency: leading the purchase of thousands more electric buses and leading a program to recruit drivers by improving pay and working conditions, stepped-up enforcement against the growing phenomenon of violence, and making the profession sought-after by embedding incentives in the sector.
- •Accelerating the development of railway lines and light rail, and setting a target of completing the Gush Dan metro by 2040.
- •Moving infrastructure work to Shabbat, to reduce disruption to traffic.
- •In addition, immediately appointing a professional, permanent director-general for Israel Railways and taking it out of the acute management crisis it fell into during the current term.
- •Advancing public-transportation lanes that will let buses keep to their schedules and improving coordination among buses, trains and other means of transportation, so that a journey that includes transfers between them is simple and convenient.
- •Completing the legislation of the Metropolitan Transportation Authorities Law, which will allow planning and managing public transportation together with local authorities and according to residents' needs.
- •Directing significant budgets to the Accelerator program in local authorities, which includes incentivizing the building of bicycle paths, public-transportation lanes and more.
- •In this way we can reduce the use of private cars and reduce the risk of accidents on city streets.
- •In the new five-year plan for the economic development of Arab society, which will replace the plan ending this year, we will emphasize significant budgeting for transportation infrastructure and public transportation in Arab localities that suffer from persistent gaps.
Connecting the north and south and building infrastructure for growth.
- •Developing the north and south is one of our central goals for the next government.
- •We will advance the completion of the planned transportation infrastructure for the north, out of a commitment to the growth and prosperity of the affected areas.
- •We will connect the north to the national rail network by shortening timelines for completing the rail line to Kiryat Shmona.
- •We will advance extending Highway 6 north to Shlomi and widening Highway 4 between Haifa and Nahariya, alongside dealing with bottlenecks and key junctions.
- •We will expand public-transportation services in the north and south, and give local authorities powers that will let them adapt the service to residents' needs, expanding the model operating in the Golan.
- •We will advance building an additional airport in the Negev alongside developing Haifa's airport, as part of strengthening accessibility and economic activity in the north and south.
Fighting road accidents.
- •Leading and implementing a five-year plan to reduce the number of road-accident deaths by 50%.
- •Within it, emphasis will be placed on coordinated work among government ministries, involving local authorities and regional clusters, setting targets and regularly tracking the transfer of funds and the plan's execution.
- •We will strengthen the National Road Safety Authority and give it powers that will let it act effectively as the body leading implementation of the national plan and coordinating the work of government ministries.
- •We will incentivize and advance the building of life-saving infrastructure that reduces the risk of accidents, including bicycle paths, safe infrastructure for pedestrians and traffic calming in cities, building safety barriers and more.
- •We will strengthen the Israel Police's Traffic Division and its coordination with the Transportation Ministry and the Education Ministry.
- •We will expand the use of technological means for enforcement, including means that will help collect information and direct enforcement in a data-based way.
Advancing public transportation every day of the week.
- •Advancing the operation of public transportation on Shabbat too, connecting Israel's cities.
- •In this way we will reduce dependence on the private car and give freedom of movement to all.
- •The arrangements within localities will be set in dialogue with local authorities, to adapt the route to local and community needs.
- •The move will be made while taking into account workers' rights to working and rest hours.
