Official source: A national plan to fix transportation in Israel and free the traffic jams · Published 14.10.2026

Transportation and infrastructure

  • •Easing traffic jams: about 200 km of new public-transit lanes, traffic-light priority, high-frequency lines, 6 trains an hour between Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Haifa and Be'er Sheva, more train cars and longer operating hours, and changing bus contracts to reward passenger satisfaction
  • •Road safety: a coordinated national campaign with measurable targets, safe infrastructure, safety systems in vehicles, scrapping old and unsafe vehicles, enforcement by cameras and technology, and deterrent fines
  • •Metro and rail: speeding up and expanding the Gush Dan metro and public transit in Jerusalem, Be'er Sheva and Haifa, connecting the metro, heavy rail, light rail and buses, frequent buses in cities of over 100,000 residents, and completing the rail link north to Kiryat Shmona
  • •Fares: simplifying and lowering fares and multi-ride cards, one smart fare for a full journey from home to work, and canceling "transport justice," on the claim that it created new discrimination
  • •Professional management: professional appointments only, performance targets and accountability, multi-year budgets, a national committee to remove obstacles, and separating politics from transportation
  • •Decentralization: establishing metropolitan transport authorities and transferring powers and budgets over routes, frequency and service to local authorities
  • •Smart traffic: a real-time national transportation center, adaptive traffic lights and green waves, and support for autonomous transportation
  • •Aviation and connectivity: incentives and guarantees for competition by foreign airlines alongside El Al, building an additional international airport, and priority for the IMEC rail line
